Fischer studied at the Staedlschule in Frankfurt-am-Main, and then began his career as a freelance designer in advertising art in 1945. He was married to fellow German Dorothea Nosbisch, and together they worked in West Germany as the team "Fischer-Nosbisch" for the Atlas-Verleih movie distribution company.
